Visiting the Crown

Visiting the crown of the Statue of Liberty is a rewarding activity. Due to its extreme popularity, tickets to the crown must be reserved prior to visiting. There are a limited number of crown tickets per day.

Warning : Statue City Cruises is the ONLY ferry service authorized by the National Park Service for ticket sales and transportation to Liberty and Ellis Islands. Numerous third-party vendors sell tickets at higher prices or for boats that do not land at the islands.


Reserve Your Crown Tickets

Tickets to the Crown must be reserved online in advance from our authorized vendor: Statue City Cruises. They can also be reached by phone at: 877-LADY TIX (877 523-9849).

Note: Tickets to the Crown cannot be purchased at the ferry departure locations of Battery Park, Liberty State Park, or on Liberty Island.

What To Expect

The Statue’s Crown can only be accessed by climbing 162 stairs. There is no elevator service to the Crown. The climb is strenuous. The National Park Service recommends that crown visitors have no significant physical or mental conditions which would impair their ability to complete the climb, such as (but not limited to):

National Park Service Rangers will be present to assist visitors. Those who feel uncomfortable proceeding up the crown staircase have the option of stopping at the top of the Statue of Liberty's pedestal. For additional information on the crown, please visit Physical Mobility in the Crown.

Picking Up Your Crown Tickets

Crown tickets are for a specific person, date and time. The ticket will have the time to enter the embarkation site security facility printed on the face.

It is recommended that you include ample time and maintain a flexible schedule to include boarding the ferry and security screening. Wait time can be an hour or more during peak times and seasons, including summer, weekends, and holidays.

Restricted Items

The following common (but not limited to) items cannot be brought to the crown and must be secured in a locker: purses (of all sizes), backpacks, fanny packs, camera bags, tripods, keys, writing instruments, umbrellas, shopping bags, food and drinks (except for water in a plastic bottle), and any item that may impede progress on the staircase.

Lockers are located adjacent to the secondary screening building and require a 25 ¢ deposit (quarters only). Locker dimensions are approximately 12"x12"x18" and there are change machines available to $1 and $5 bills.
